Instructor Traning

Bent’s Instructor Training Program offers the student an intimate learning environment with emphasis on biomechanics of the exercises. The student will learn traditional choreography on all of the apparatus. In addition, they will learn variations on the traditional exercises and other Pilates based exercises to expand their knowledge and create varied and fun workouts. They will learn how to create workouts for clients that are post rehab, living with injuries, pregnant and other special populations.
Pre-requisites, are required to enter the program.

Mat Program:

Prerequisites

  1. 10 Mat classes: Submit a log of mat classes taken the year prior to the program with a certified instructor/instructors’ signature.
  2. CPR certification is recommended.

Outline:

  1. The first weekend will be anatomy and biomechanics of movement. This will allow the student to study and absorb the information before the choreography is taught.
  2. Second weekend all the exercises of the mat will be taught with emphasis of the anatomy and biomechanics taught in the first weekend.
  3. Fri: 3-6
  4. Sat. & Sun, 9am-5pm

Objectives:

  1. Learn insertions and origins of specific muscles related to Pilates
  2. Learn antagonistic and protagonist muscles related to Pilates.
  3. Create a beginner, intermediate and advanced mat class.
  4. Learn how to instruct open level mat classes.
  5. Learn and create clear and articulate cues for group class
Apparatus Program:

Prerequisites:

  1. Attend Bent Mat Certification or another reputable one. Present a copy of certification.
  2. Complete a minimum of 10 private sessions and 10 semi-private sessions either at Bent or another reputable studio. Present a log of classes with the certified instructor/instructors’ signature. NOTE: These can be used as self-practice if sessions were completed one year prior to training course.
  3. Pass anatomy entrance exam.

Outline:

  1. Length is 8 months-year

Lecture Hours:

  1. Sat./Sun. 9am-5pm-Beginner Choreography
  2. Sat./Sun. 9am-5pm-Intermediate Choreography
  3. Sat./Sun. 9am-5pm-Advanced Choreography
  4. Sat. Sun. 9am-5pm-Variations and Pilates based Choreography
  5. Sat./Sun. 9am-5pm-Basic Anatomy & Biomechanics of choreography
  6. Sat./Sun. 9am-5pm-Modifications for Special Populations
  7. Sat. Sun. 9am-5pm-Assessment Techniques, Cueing, & Q&A
  8. Self Practice 80 hours (including 10 private and 10 semi-private sessions)
  9. Observation 40 hours
  10. Supervised Instructing 80 + 10 Mat with Bent Program. 90 hours w/o Bent Program
  11. Apprenticeship Hours 50 (Apprentices will be paid a small sum for these sessions.)

Objectives:

  1. Strong anatomy and biomechanics perspective related to apparatus exercises.
  2. Clear verbal cues when Instructing exercises.
  3. Able to create sessions for all types of clients ie: athletic types, post rehab, super seniors, dancers/performers.
  4. Create a fun 60-minute workout.
  5. Assess client’s needs efficiently and sufficiently.
  6. Learn how to use the equipment safely.
